Icarus Birdhaus

Icarus Birdhaus - street view
Icarus Birdhaus is a condominium building, with each floor designed by the individual owner.  The result is an adventurous facade..

This is a view of the penthouse unit... a Triplex.

Icarus Grand (XIII)

Welcome to the Icarus Grand, a 16 story office tower, which replaces Icarus III - quietly retired to the land of designs that lost their luster.
Icarus Grand - corner view showing south and
west facades.  Notice the staggered window treatment.

Like Icarus III, the Grand has an outside patio space
located high above the noise of the city streets...

This is a view of the elevator tower, used
to transport electrical wires from one floor to the next.
It is hollow throughout.   The elevator tower
also services to deliver stability to the building.

Icarus Habitat

Icarus Habitat, a beach house project..
Icarus Habitat - an apartment block.  Built in mini-scale..

Icarus XII

Icarus XII - or Icarus Crystal as I prefer, uses a new window
element to create an exterior which approximates the
"all glass" structures often seen in modern high rise construction.
Lighting test.
View of Icarus Crystal under construction.  Notice
the structure which is free standing, and can
remain entirely erect without any window or
brick skinning.
Construction view..
Icarus Crystal - front facade.

Icarus XI

A variation on the original Icarus Pavilion, this
project reaches for new shapes using the standard
square window components.
The slanted window panels were changed to
a horizontal position to follow the orientation
of the other windows.

Icarus X

Icarus X, an example of a mid-rise structure.  Notice
the curved window elements in the right wing.  This building features
high gaps between some of the floors.

Icarus IX

Icarus IX - back to mid-height office structures.
With this Icarus project I enjoyed adding a variety
of exterior details.   Notice the stepped facade which
is the elevator tower.

Icarus VIII

Icarus VIII is another entry
in the low-rise office buildings.
This is one of my favorite entry plazas.
One of the better
examples of this motif in the Icarus projects.
Front view of entry.
The roofline allows a clear-story window..

Icarus VII

Icarus VII - an example of a "mid-height" office
building.  Structures in this scale tend to
have two wings with a central core joining them.
This building boasts a glass atrium open from the
lobby to the top floor.   The building frame is
entirely free-standing with the outer skin serving
only to enclose the space and not adding any
structural benefit.
Icarus VII against the city skyline.
West facade.
Rear facade - the blue-and
red section in the middle is the
central elevator core..

Icarus VI

Icarus VI, perhaps my least favorite of the Icarus
projects because of the design of the top floor.  This is also
one of the more detailed facades with some elements
that I truly like.  Notice the staggered facade between
the two wings...
South facade (left side if facing)..  notice the
blue columnettes.
I find the staggered facade to be an interesting
way to transition back to the central core of this
building.
South facade.

Icarus V - The Pavillion

Following the theme of "shorter still"...  this office
building of modest height uses shapes in the facade
to create an interesting form.  this building is
longer than it is high, thus the notion of
a "pavillion"..
Still following the motif of entry lobby with building floors that
extend beyond..
Workers in this building enjoy terraces on
most floors, making this a bit of an "outside"
building.

Icarus IV

Icarus IV, the first of many "short-rise" projects.
Intended to be more neighborhood friendly,
these buildings tend to range up to 8 stories.
Someone hard at work in the top floor...
The ever-present elevator tower transporting
the lighting wires from one floor to the next.

Icarus III

Still standing today, Icarus III is
another project which emphasizes
tall structure.  This building has gone
through several exterior remodels but
is essentially unchanged from its original
build.
A bit dizzy?  This top-down view shows the
roof deck..
Icarus III today, after various remodelings.  notice the
white columns were replaced by black to create a
more consistent facade..
